SDSG candidates tackle smuggling [Ontario]

Illicit goods from the U.S. remain a drain on law enforcement, government coffers and residents’ health despite a pseudo-war on smugglers that has lasted longer than the Vietnam War.

According to surveys, Cornwall and SDG residents puff more contraband cigarettes than most other Ontarians, who already have the highest lighting up rate – about 22 per cent – in both Canada and the U.S.

Worse yet, the most frequent users, due to limited financial resources, are youth, the poor and some minority groups.
