Up to 100 Tory MPs are planning to vote against Government plans to force tobacco companies to sell cigarettes in plain packaging, The Telegraph can disclose.
Experts say that the plans would allow counterfeiters to cut the price of a packet of cigarettes to just £3 – more than half their cost at present.
Nick De Bois, a senior Conservative MP, said that the plans to force cigarette companies to remove all branding would result in a boom in cheap counterfeit cigarettes.
