A Mersey businessman was arrested over his alleged role in a £11m tobacco smuggling ring.
The 56-year-old, a company director from Widnes, was detained by revenue officers investigating an illicit cartel uncovered in Ireland on Tuesday
HM Revenue and Customs, working with Irish police, seized 32 million illicit cigarettes and nearly five tons of shisha tobacco in Drogheda, a town in the north east of the Republic.
