SINGAPORE: Education Minister Heng Swee Keat said government agencies must beef up their cyber security, and take any threat seriously.
Mr Heng’s comment came after recent attacks on government websites.
Both the webpages of the Prime Minister’s Office and Istana were compromised last week, after hackers tried to bring them down.
Mr Heng said: “Such threats can harm the infrastructure of Singapore, and therefore resources must be devoted to dealing with these issues and taking these threats seriously.”
The education minister was speaking on the sidelines of a community event that kicked off a nutrition programme for seniors called “Eating Well in Your Golden Years”.
A study by Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2011 showed that one in three seniors are at risk of malnutrition – which could lead to more frequent falls and more serious injuries.
Dr Ong Siew Hua, who chairs the project, said there are plans to implement the initiative island-wide.
The event was organised by the Paya Lebar Kovan Community Club, in Aljunied GRC.
