The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association urged the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday to help create harmonious cybersecurity regulation by quickly passing a bill that would let agencies share cybersecurity information more easily.
The industry group said in testimony delivered Wednesday that in order to be most effective, regulations would need to be coordinated between industry and various government agencies. That goal would be facilitated by S. 2588, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2014, the group said, lauding the bill as a “balanced approach” to information sharing.
“Regulations should be harmonized for greater effectiveness. … Effective cybersecurity regulatory guidance is critical both for the financial services sector and the other critical infrastructure sectors we rely on,” the group said.
