Alabama is one of three states in the country that does not require companies to notify their customers in the event of a security breach, even in that breach may have compromised individuals’ private details.
In a report on Marketplace last week, NPR’s David Gura explained that the Federal Government has been resistant to pass any laws with respect to the Internet, even when those laws may benefit consumers. This left digital consumer protections, such as requirements about compulsory data-breach reporting, up to the states.
