Community pharmacists are facing a growing new threat of cyber attacks, Paul Naismith, Fred IT Group CEO, revealed.
Mr Naismith told delegates at APP2013 that a group of Russian hackers had encrypted computers belonging to a Gold Coast medical clinic last year, and warned pharmacies had also been targeted in the past.
He said pharmacists need to be conscious of their needs for e-security with the growing shift toward e-health and electronic health records.
“There is not bigger risk at the moment [for a pharmacy] than being hit by one of these attacks,” he said.
