Mark Weatherford Joins Chertoff Group from DHS as Principal to Drive Security Services

Mark Weatherford will join the The Chertoff Group May 1 as a principal in its Washington, D.C. office and work to to grow the firm’s security services and consulting business lines.

The former chief information security officer for the states of California and Colorado joins the firm from the Department of Homeland Security, where he served as first Deputy Under Secretary for Cybersecurity for the National Protection and Programs Directorate.

In that role, he helped create network operations and worked to prevent and respond to advanced persistent cyber threats.

Weatherford has previously served as vice president and chief security officer at the North American Electric Reliability Corp., directing that company’s infrastructure critical infrastructure protection and cybersecurity program.

He also led Raytheon‘s Navy/Marine Corps Intranet Security Operations Center and helped conduct security certification and accreditation with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency.

As a Navy cyptologic officer, he led computer network defense operations and the Naval Computer Incident Response Team.
