GSA sets March 25 deadline for FedRAMP 3PAO applications

The General Services Administration will beginning March 25 no longer accept  new or re-submitted applications for organizations applying to become Third  Party Assessment Organizations, a key component of the Federal Risk and  Authorization Management Program.

“Organizations that cannot meet the cutoff date or are denied can apply for  accreditation to the private sector body after the transition period,” said the  GSA in a March 5 announcement on  FedBizOpps.

Information about the 3PAO application cutoff date comes just weeks after a  Feb. 15 GSA request  for information on privatizing the 3PAO process. Under this  approach, FedRAMP could contract with a privatized accreditation body in order  to manage the 3PAO application process.

“After the transition period, organizations interested in being accredited 3PAOs  will apply through the selected accreditation body’s process,” according to the  RFI.
