(ISC)2 (“ISC)-squared”), the world’s largest information security professional body and administrators of the CISSP, announced on July 23 that it has appointed two new members to its U.S. Government Advisory Board (GAB). They are as follows:

• Ray Letteer, CISSP, chief of the Cybersecurity Division of the Command, Control, Communications and Computer Department at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. Letteer oversees all efforts for cyber security and information assurance within the Marine Corps, including computer network defense, public key infrastructure, electronic key management systems, and certification and accreditation. He also serves as the Marine Corps Senior Information Assurance Official (SIAO) and as the designated approval authority for the Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN), which includes all networks and networked systems, whether in garrison or tactically deployed.
• Sean Lang, CISSP, chief information security officer (CISO) for the Library of Congress. As the CISO for the Library of Congress, Lang oversees all aspects of IT security, including the task of protecting the Library’s sensitive information while at the same time enabling the ability to supply research to Congress and the public. He is a participant in the Legislative Branch CISO Council.

These two federal executives will serve with (ISC)2’s elite group of volunteer advisors from the U.S. public sector and industry organizations. The board provides insight and advice to the (ISC)2 executive management team on government policies and programs that affect the information security profession, as well as credentials for U.S. cyber security professionals, and sponsors community outreach initiatives including the (ISC)2 Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLAs) and the (ISC)2 U.S. Government Advisory Board Executive Writers Bureau (GAB EWB).

The new members were introduced during the GAB’s quarterly meeting on June 14 in Washington, DC, explained an ISC2 press release.

“Each new board member brings unique insights into the federal information security workforce and how government and industry can advance the profession,” said Marc Noble, CISSP-ISSAP, CISM, CGEIT, MBCI, director of government affairs for (ISC)2 and co-chair of the GAB. “At a time when significant government focus and resources are being invested in filling the pipeline of qualified professionals, Mr. Lang and Mr. Letteer’s contributions of knowledge and experience will greatly assist (ISC)2 in determining how best to evolve our resources and credentials in support of this effort.”

Established in 2003, the (ISC)2 GAB is one of several (ISC)2 advisory boards representing information security professionals worldwide. Other boards advise on information security workforce issues specific to the North American, Latin American, European and Asia-Pacific regions, as well as a global Application Security Advisory Board.
