The lack of a clear cyber-security standard from the Federal Trade Commission in policies and enforcement has an impact on businesses when their consumer data is taken.
Alan Winchester of Harris Beach said the FTC doesn’t want to pin down a standard for everyone, preferring to have some flexibility. There is a framework but not a standard, he said. The agency maintains that the level of protection should be commensurate with the business size and the type of data it maintains, he said.
