UPDATE: The General Services Administration informed me at 12:25 p.m. that the request for information has been canceled. GSA officials declined to comment or explain the cancellation.
The General Services Administration has kicked off a search for roughly 500,000 square feet in Northern Virginia that sources say could be an early step toward establishing a federal cybersecurity hub in the commonwealth.
The GSA posted a request for information Aug. 26 to FedBizOpps.gov seeking sources able to provide up to a half-million square feet of office and related space for a pair of undisclosed agencies. Two federal real estate experts say the RFI is likely for the GSA’s proposed civilian cyber center. The agency has outlined plans seeking to consolidate cybersecurity operations from about 630,000 square feet across the D.C. region, but is still in the early stages of that process.
