Institution Created to Overcome Regulatory Obesity
The Joko Widodo government will form a special body that will manage all laws and regulations. The formulation of government regulations relating will be coordinated centrally and then legislature will be consulted. The aim is to respond to too many legal rules in Indonesia that slow the pace of development.
In the forming the agency, said Pramono, the government consulted with the South Korean Ministry of Legislation. The plan for the formation of this body will be carried out after the 2019 Presidential Election. This single agency or institution will later be tasked with carrying out a number of activities, such as planning, formulation, harmonization, socialization and regulatory reform. The establishment of a single institution that deals with this legislation has been implemented in several developed countries, such as The Office Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in America, The Office of Best Practice Regulation (OBPR) in the UK, Cabinet Legislation Bureau (CLB) in Japan, and Ministry of Government Legislation (MoLeg) in Korea.
