The event will take place on Thursday, September 17th from 2:30-6:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency at Embarcadero Center in San Francisco. The public is encouraged to attend and provide public comment to Administration officials in attendance including CEQ Chair Nancy Sutley and NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco. We encourage you to attend so that science is well represented. Ocean Leadership has been very engaged in providing information including the following presentation (http://www.oceanleadership.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/national_ocean_policyrole_of_science.ppt) to the task force as it has been drafting a national ocean policy. The policy may be released as early as next week and will likely be followed by a public comment period, so stay tuned.

The Task Force has also been charged with providing a framework for marine spatial planning to the President by the middle of December. We are also providing information to the task force in terms of the science and observation requirements for marine spatial planning. Needless to say, these are major initiatives that the Administration is undertaking, and we are working hard to ensure that science plays a
central role in the development and implementation of these policies. This represents a huge opportunity that comes around very infrequently. Hence, it is front and center here at Ocean Leadership
