Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The State Attorney General is filing a Federal lawsuit against a DeWitt business, arguing that the company is evading cigarette taxes.

The lawsuit says the roll-your-own cigarette business “Tobacco House CCW” sells cigarettes without paying required taxes.

“They are breaking the law,” said Assistant Attorney General Ed Thompson. “They law is very clear with respect to the sale of tobacco in the State of New York. You cannot sell tobacco in violation of tax laws. This store is not properly charging tax, taxes, so, therefore, the people of the State of New York are being cheated out of revenue that they’re entitled to.”

The lawsuit also alleges that the store sells cigarettes that are not certified as “fire-safe” and they do not bear health warnings, both of which are against the law.
