FDA to list harmful ingredients on cigarette packs

CNN – The Food and Drug Administration says it wants the tobacco industry to tell consumers about every harmful chemical in cigarettes.
The agency also says any claims of a “reduced harm” product, such as smokeless tobacco, has to be backed up.
FDA officials made the announcements on Friday.
There are more than seven thousand chemicals in tobacco products and the FDA says 93 of them are harmful. That list includes formaldehyde, nicotine and arsenic.
There still has to be a public comment period, but the FDA wants the new packaging by April 2013.
