MOSCOW (Sputnik), Tommy Yang – Efforts from US-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to smuggle USB flash drives with information banned by Pyongyang into North Korea are unlikely to have expected effects of changing mindsets of the North Korean public, experts told Sputnik.

NGOs, such as the New York-based Human Rights Foundation (HRF), stepped up their efforts to bring flash drives filled with information that could influence the opinions of ordinary people into North Korea in 2017, amid growing tension on the Korean Peninsula after rapid advance in Pyongyang’s nuclear arms program.

“Condemning the Government of Pakistan’s closure of over 20 international aid agencies “without any verifiable cause”, a group of international civil society organisations have described the decision as part of a growing and worrying trend of shrinking space for civil society and repression of human rights across South Asia.

Condemning the arbitrary banning of these agencies and reiterating the importance of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in assisting development projects, the groups, which included CHRI, International Federation for Human Rights, the National Foundation of India and Katiba Institute of Kenya, called for an “immediate reversal of this decision”.

Nigerian Television Authority published an article titled, “Sponsor scientific-based documentaries on television for youth development, NGO advises corporate organizations.” The article reads as follows;

“Mrs Atinuke Odjenima, the Executive Director of Hindsight Development Organisation, an NGO, has appealed to corporate organizations to reconsider the sponsorship of scientific-based documentaries and programmes on television stations to enhance youth development.

Odjenima told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that lack of such documentaries had accounted for the fall in Nigeria’s educational system.

She said that most corporate organizations nowadays were only interested in sponsoring entertainment-based programmes which they believed would fetch them huge revenue in the immediate.
