New EPA Cancer Guidelines Incorporate Data Quality Act
The Environmental Protection Agency has published its final Guidelines for Carcinogen Risk Assessment. This document will ‘guide' EPA's assessment of cancer risk in all the Agency's program areas: e.g., water, air, hazardous waste and pesticides. EPA's new Cancer Guidelines incorporate OMB's and EPA's Data Quality Act Guidelines and cite them frequently. For example, EPA's Cancer Guidelines state:
"It is important that, when evaluating and considering the use of any data,
EPA analysis incorporate the basic standards of quality, as defined by the
EPA Information Quality Guidelines..., as well as OMB Guidelines for
Ensuring and Maximizing the Quality, Utility, and Integrity of Information
Disseminated by Federal Agencies.... It is very important that all analyses
consider the basic standards of quality, including objectivity, utility, and integrity."
