More Opposition to Menthol Cig Ban


“This started out in Providence,” said Wilson. In 2012, Providence passed an ordinance that adopted the federal government’s 2009 prohibition on the sale of flavored tobacco, Wilson said. “They took it and expanded it … to not only include cigarettes … but the [flavored] juices inside e-cigarettes.”

The City of Providence was sued in Federal Court by the tobacco industry, and the tobacco industry lost in the Federal Court of Appeals, said Wilson. The tobacco industry chose not to pursue another appeal.

Health danger warning over fake fags laced with lethal chemicals and ASBESTOS

Counterfeit cigarettes seized in Staffordshire have been found to contain dangerous chemicals, dust, excessively high tar levels and ASBESTOS.

Although all tobacco is harmful, there is often no control whatsoever on the content or quality of illicit smoking material.

The Menthol Ban is Growing

St. Paul’s proposed menthol ban is tweaked, now with 2018 implementation


The St. Paul City Council has made key changes to a proposal that would ban menthol cigarettes from convenience stores and restrict sales exclusively to adults-only tobacco shops.


In addition, Brendmoen proposed allowing liquor stores to sell menthol cigarettes, which was approved by the council 4-3 after more discussion.

Competition in Brazil gets fiercer – and winners are unexpected


A large part of the illicit cigarettes comes from neighbor country Paraguay. The country has a large number of “tabacaleras”, which produce a great deal of the illicit cigarettes sold in Brazil. More than that, most recently, as the Brazilian government has been attempting to improve surveillance over the country’s frontiers, some local production spots have also been found. These products are not legally allowed by ANVISA, the National Agency for Sanitary Surveillance in the country. However, they are widely available in some regions of the country, especially those which border Paraguay or receive high volume of imports from China. The Federal Police monitors these issues.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that GARRETT PARTMAN, age 32, of New Orleanswas sentenced today after previously pleading guilty to a one count Indictment charging him with interstate transportation in aid of racketeering enterprises.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt sentenced PARTMAN, a former Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Deputyto 3 years of probation.
