DOE Proposing Energy Conservation Rules for Small Motors
On November 24, 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy intends to publish in the Federal Register a notice of proposed rulemaking for energy conservation standards for small electric motors. This NPR is over 250 pages long in the Federal Register advance files.

DOE's Federal Register notice explains that

"Pursuant to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (42 U.S.C. 6291 et seq.), as amended... , the Department of energy...is proposing new energy conservation standards for capacitor-start and polyphase small electric motors. These standards would achieve the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible and economically justified for this equipment, and would result in significant conservation of energy."
DOE will hold a public meeting on the proposed rules on December 17, 2009, from 9-5 in Washington, D.C.

Requests to speak at public meeting are due to DOE before 4:00 pm, ET, on December 3, 2009.

Written comments on the proposed rules are due to DOE within 60 days of their actual Federal Register publication date.
