EPA Releases Draft Nanomaterial Case Study for Pre-dissemination Peer Review under Information Quality Guidelines
On July 31, 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a 45-day public comment period for the draft document ``Nanomaterial Case Studies: Nanoscale Titanium Dioxide in Water Treatment and Topical Sunscreen'' (EPA/600/R-09/057). This document was prepared by the National Center for Environmental Assessment within EPA's Office of Research and Development. The case studies focus on two different applications of nanoscale titanium dioxide, water treatment and topical sunscreen. The document is intended to serve as a foundation for creating a long-term research strategy to provide the information needed for comprehensive environmental assessments of selected nanomaterials.

In its Federal Register notice, EPA explained that is releasing this draft document solely for the purpose of pre-dissemination peer review under applicable information quality guidelines. When finalizing the draft document, EPA intends to consider any public comments that EPA receives in accordance with this notice.
