Has the nation's legal system run amuck with mult-biillon dollar
judgments? Are the plantiffs the real beneficiaries? Are there
other alternatives? What is the role of the Federal government, if any?

There have certainly been some rather extreme cases in the press. But before we worry too much about litigation, we should consider that only the most extreme example reach the press. Often news stories report that people have filed suit asking for the sky, even though the suit has little chance of winning. We hear of large jury verdicts, but very little when the jury verdict is knocked down by the judge or on appeal.
Yes, there are problems in our civil judicial system. But they are far from being as extreme as the news would lead us to believe.
There are also people and corporations who should be sued, whose negligence causes injury, death, or large financial loss.
Also, remember that for every plaintiff’s lawyer who files large lawsuits, there is a defense lawyer who is fighting for the other side.
