The Supreme Court Decision dealing with racial quotas will make little difference in the views of some individuals in one state.

". Rep. Harold Ford Jr., D-Tenn., who attended the University of Michigan Law School under its affirmative action plan, called the Supreme Court ruling upholding that plan "a victory for every American."

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., who as Secretary of Education in 1991 proposed barring the use of tax money for race-based scholarships, said the decision didn't change much and that any "college president with a good lawyer, common sense and a warm heart" should be able to achieve diversity without using race as a factor in admissions."

"Dr. Brian Noland of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission said most state campus initiatives that are Geier-related would not be impacted by the decisions."
